I really don't think that they'd be casting actors that are the ages of the characters.  Matt looks young enough for what they'd most likely be going for.

If Will Swenson can play a high school student in Hair, Matt can be a Newsie! Smiley

Matt has been officially added to the line up of guests at "Wes Taylor and Friends" at Joe's Pub on May 3rd (also, they finally fixed the name of the drummer!):

Wes Taylor and Friends
Pop tunes. Original tunes. Show tunes.
Currently playing Lucas Beineke in Broadway's The Addams Family, after originating the role of Franz in the Broadway and Off-Broadway productions of Rock of Ages (Theatre World Award/OCC nomination), Wesley Taylor is thrilled to sing in your face while you get drunk. Joining him are Matt Doyle (Spring Awakening, Bye Bye Birdie), Mitch Jarvis (Rock of Ages, Fiddler...), Lauren Molina (Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages), and Krysta Rodriguez (The Addams Family, In the Heights). Mary-Mitchell Campbell/piano, Damien Bassman/drums, Christian Imboden/guitar.

It sounds like a fun night:

Matt Doyle, of Broadway’s Spring Awakening and Bye Bye Birdie, as well TV hit Gossip Girl, returns this April to Joe’s Pub with a unique follow-up to his two sold-out engagements last summer. Inspired by his passion for the up-and-coming writing talents of musical theatre, Matt’s all-new concert will highlight the most current, thrilling and innovative sounds of musical theater. The show will feature songs by writers like Kerrigan & Lowdermilk, Joe Iconis and Ryan Scott Oliver, and several other young composers.

The concert will be directed by Travis Greisler with musical supervision by Brian Lowdermilk, and is being produced by Katie Riegel (jokr productions) and Noah Cornman (Sh-K-Boom & Ghostlight Records).

Hmm... if my conference gets out in time, I could go. Do you think tickets will be sold at the door or should I buy ahead?

Just got my ticket!  I can't wait. I think I might be even more excited for this than I was for Jenn and Adam's show...so basically, I might explode. Tongue

So excited!  I've become exposed to so many new composers over the past few months because of all of the concerts he's done, and I've loved being able to listen to all of this new talent (and him, duh).

I'm also pretty curious about those "quirky pop covers", haha.  Should be fun!

Weird that it's at 7 and not 7:30. I hope they add a later show, maybe I can swing it then! This concert sounds absolutely wonderful - Matt Doyle singing songs by all of our favorite new composers!

I just went to buy my tickets and on the information page, it gave me a list of genres for the show: R&B, Hip-hop; Pop, Rock; Broadway, Cabaret, Musical Theater.

Well, I guess we know what kind of surprise quirky songs will be included!  I cannot wait to hear the hip-hop stylings of Matt Doyle!  Wink
