The Public Theater announced today that, after the successful 40th Anniversary staged-concert of Hair last summer, it will stage a full production of the legendary musical July 22-August 17.

Diane Paulus will once again direct a cast of 27 led by Tony Award nominee Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening) and Will Swenson (110 in the Shade) who will revive their roles as Claude and Berger, respectively.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAIR is one of my favorite musicals ever... I own three records of it and one cd. I'm so jealous of my mom because she saw it years and years ago. I'll definitely be getting tickets for this when I do my roadtrip down at the end of the summer!

I'd bet a fairly substantial sum of money that Lea won't go on without Jonathan. Except not really, because I'm poor, but still.

AHHH EXCITEMENT. I missed the previous performance, so I'm so happy to hear it will be there over the summer. Playbill.com knows how to make my day, haha.

Does anyone have any idea how difficult it typically is to get Shakespeare in the Park tix?

Oh man, I am so excited for this! Congrats to Groff for getting another gig so quickly, although I wonder how his TV show factors into this?

Oh, and was there still a question about when he was leaving? I thought those articles from a while ago made it pretty clear that Lea and Jon were leaving in May together, didn't they?

Not difficult at all, if you feel like getting up super early and waiting in line all morning. And I mean super early, once it actually opens.

Man, why couldn't he have done this last summer when I was an usher? Maybe I'll just have to get a job there again...

I was wondering the same thing about his pilot? I mean if it does get picked up wouldn't he be in California during that time?

And I don't think anyone is 100% sure whether or not Lea and him are leaving in May, just we know they will definitely be there until May 18th. I think that Groff is waiting to find out if his show gets picked up or not before he decides.
If he does stay, he could do both SA and Hair, I mean they let Phoebe and Skylar and JBW have time off to pursue other projects.

Anyways congrats to him! How weird is it that I just finished hearing "GOOD MORNING STARSHINE" on the radio before finding this out? Smiley

NICE. That's another to the "Must See" list.

I asked him last weekend, he said that May's definitely his last (I think he said the 18th). Of course, we're just gonna have to see an official thingy before everyone jumps to conclusions.
