I felt it was necessary to make this because despite how many times one of the mods post telling people to stop discussing bootlegs, nobody listens.

Bootlegs are illegal and they are not to be discussed or traded on TGO. We all know they exist and we know many have them, but stop posting about them and stop asking for them.

RULES
  • DON'T discuss having bootlegs.
  • DON'T make posts asking if anyone has a bootleg to share.
  • DON'T post any audio clips or videos from bootlegs.
  • DON'T go around writing that you have something and tell people to PM you if they want it.
  • DON'T go into threads writing "PM ME YOUR BOOTLEG."
  • DON'T write your cutesy words like "shoes" and "permanent memories" because we know what you are talking about.
  • DON'T write *cough* when hinting at bootlegs because it's annoying and once again, we know what context you are using it in.

Other mods, please post anything else here if I missed anything or you have something to add.

PS - It isn't us mods just being fascist dictators, it's actually a legitimate legal issue. Bootlegs are against the law. Period. Producers read the boards. If they see bootlegs, they could report it to AEA and the board could ultimately be shut down. We KNOW that the majority of people have bootlegs/make bootlegs - but keep it to PMs. There's absolutely no reason to have an ENTIRE page of people going "PM me" when someone vaguely mentions they have a bootleg. Keep it off the boards.

They don't even know what it is to be a fan. Y'know? To truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, so much that it hurts.

With its heartache, with its sorrow

I need to send a huge apology out because on occasion, I have fueled the problem by talking about bootlegs, thinking I'm being sly. But it was foolish of me and I am sorry. I agree with everything Stef and Andrew have posted before me. PMs were created for a reason, one of them being discussing things like that out of the public eye. It is an important legal issue, and should be taken seriously, by me, as well as all the members.
